Terneuzen - feasibility study of aerobic biological

At a large chemical plant in Terneuzen, a soil and groundwater contamination with 1,4 dioxane is present. As little to no information is available on the biodegradation potential of 1,4-dioxane, a feasibility study to assess aerobic biodegradation of 1,4-dioxane was conducted.

Biodegradation was prooved to ongo at high rates as well by oxygen consumption, lab analyses and molecular analyses. The feasibility study shows the high potential for aerobic treatment of soils and groundwater. The full scale remediation is expected to start in 2018.
