LNAPL Removal in the north of Brazil

Due to fuel spills from leakages in underground tanks and fuel handling, an area of approx. 15,000 m² along a Train Fuel Station / Maintenance yard resulted largely contaminated. The site is located in a remote location in the vicinity of the Amazon rain forest in the north of Brazil. An in-situ remediation system to remove LNAPL and to reduce the dissolved phase groundwater plume was implemented.

After 17 months of operation of the remediation system, no more free phase was reported in the remediation area. Currently, the in-situ aerobic remediation to further reduce the dissolved groundwater plume is on-going.
