Innovative & On-Site: GreenSoil's First Project featured Large-Scale Biopile and Biosparging to remediate massive Xylene contamination
We’re happy to announce the completion of the very first remediation project at Westerlo, Belgium — and it’s one we’re especially proud of.
The challenge? Treating at a former industrial site a large volume of both soil and groundwater extremely high contaminated with Xylene and Ethylbenzene.
Our approach was guided by two core principles: sustainability and innovation.
✅ No soil left the site — all contamination was treated in-situ, right where it was found.
✅ We applied a smart combination of Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) and Groundwater Pump & Treat, allowing us to efficiently remove xylene with minimal surface disruption.
✅ Emissions from the treatment process were carefully managed using our Biopile Air Filtration Technique (BAT) — a Best Available Technique that ensures clean air and protects surrounding communities.
The result? A cleaner site, a healthier environment, and a strong start to GreenSoil’s mission of delivering smart, sustainable remediation solutions.
