Innovative PFAS Remediation Through Biopolymer-Assisted Leaching

PFAS contamination in soils has become one of today’s most challenging environmental issues. Sensatec GmbH and Greensoil are now pioneering a breakthrough solution designed to address this problem both effectively and sustainably.

Biopolymer-assisted leaching is an innovative remediation technique that removes PFAS from soil without altering its essential physical or biological properties—offering a sustainable alternative to traditional excavation and off-site disposal.
The method uses a biodegradable biopolymer solution whose amphiphilic properties significantly enhance PFAS mobilization, allowing contaminants to be flushed out efficiently while the soil structure remains intact.

Key Advantages

  • 🔹 In-situ and on-site application — eliminates the need for soil transport
  • 🔹 Up to 95% PFAS removal
  • 🔹 >99% removal efficiency in sandy soils and >95% in loamy soils
  • 🔹 Soil fertility and microbial activity remain preserved

Next Steps

Sensatec and Greensoil are currently scaling up this technology through the development of leaching piles, providing an efficient and environmentally responsible remediation pathway. Larger-scale field tests are planned for late 2025 and early 2026.
