End of Project: Vaggeryd (SE) Closure achieved through advanced Contamination Assessment & Bedrock Investigation

April 2025

🔬 Innovative contamination mapping at Vaggeryd

Greensoil, in partnership with @Rosmarus Enviro, has successfully completed the Vaggeryd Project with an approval of the authorities for closure. This project shows great value how to map and understand contaminant plumes in fractured bedrock environments.

💡 Key Findings & Techniques:

Historical Data Review – Interviews and municipal reports revealed secondary and tertiary contamination sources, fundamentally shifting our understanding of the plume origins.

Bedrock Investigations – NAPL FLUTe™ liner installations, FACT liners, acoustic imaging, and flow measurements provided critical insights into subsurface TCE behavior.
Geophysical Investigations – Using Electrical Resistivity (ER), we mapped major fracture zones influencing contaminant transport.

🏁 Outcome:

The New Conceptual Site Model (CSM) – We re-evaluated historical data and identified alternative contaminant migration pathways. The revised site model and risk assessment confirmed that active remediation was no longer necessary, leading to a regulator-approved system shutdown and a streamlined monitoring strategy.

This project underscores the importance of rethinking conventional site assessments—leveraging modern investigation techniques and historical context to drive smarter remediation decisions.

A huge thank you to our dedicated team, partners, and stakeholders for making this possible!
